Painted Pickle

About Painted Pickle

Opened in April 2024, Painted Pickle transforms a former Atlanta warehouse into a
high-energy destination where pickleball, dining, and socializing collide. Created
by Atlanta-based Painted Hospitality, the 32,500-square-foot venue in Armour Yards is a multi-zone entertainment destination with eight indoor pickleball courts, one outdoor court, multiple dining areas, a full-service bar, and outdoor patios.

The Audio Challenge

The industrial, open-ceiling design gives Painted Pickle its striking character but also posed major acoustic challenges. For Painted Hospitality CEO Justin Amick, delivering great sound is a top priority for every venue in their portfolio.

Integrator Wes Bradshaw and his team at Sunbelt Technology faced the challenge of providing high-performance audio that could handle the dynamic environment of a busy sports venue. They needed wide, even coverage across the warehouse-scale courts while keeping speakers safely out of the way. Additionally, the system had to support multiple sound zones, each with its own atmosphere, without compromising a cohesive overall experience.

the solution

To meet Painted Pickle’s demanding audio needs, Sunbelt Technology selected Sonance Professional Series Loudspeakers for their durability, flexibility, and consistent voicing across form factors. While pendant speakers initially seemed ideal for overhead coverage, standard mounting positions risked interference during play.

"The indoor courts are in this huge, open space with high ceilings," says Bradshaw. "Pendant speakers in standard positions would either get damaged by balls or force players to worry about hitting them."

For the indoor courts, the team utilized Professional Series Surface-Mount speakers, strategically installed along structural pillars. This approach delivered even, powerful sound across the playing areas while staying out of the way of players.

Beyond the courts, each entertainment
and dining zone was designed with Professional Series loudspeakers depending on the ceiling height and acoustic and visual needs.

Pendant and surface-mount speakers provided full coverage in dining areas, bars, and social zones, while maintaining consistent tonality across zones. This allowed guests to move from the courts to dining and bar areas without experiencing abrupt changes in sound quality.

Even the outdoor patios utilized Sonance speakers, to ensure high-performance audio that could withstand the elements while delivering rich, controlled sound for al fresco dining and socializing.

The end result was a fully integrated, multi-zone audio system with consistent voicing, flexible mounting options, and optimal coverage, allowing Painted Pickle to provide premium audio experiences across every corner of the venue.

RESULTS

Months of active play have confirmed
the system’s success. Pillar-mounted speakers deliver even sound across eight indoor courts. Dining and bar areas enjoy rich, even audio. And for Painted Hospitality, the integrated bass response reduced the need for additional subwoofers, simplifying installation and minimizing equipment.

"At Painted Pickle, we're all about curating vibe as much as venue. Sonance helps us do both. Their sound solutions elevate every moment, from pickleball rallies to cocktail clinks, so guests don't just hear the energy, they feel it."

- Justin Amick, CEO of Painted Hospitality

Broader Impact

The success of Painted Pickle has influenced Painted Hospitality’s expansion plans, including their upcoming venue Painted Park. The proven partnership between Sonance and Sunbelt Technology has become a cornerstone of their development strategy.

More broadly, Painted Pickle showcases a new approach to sound in sport entertainment venues, one that blends design flexibility, acoustic integrity, and technical creativity. With consistent voicing and adaptable mounting options, the Sonance Professional Series allows integrators to maintain premium sound even in dynamic, unconventional spaces.

For integrators and venue operators, Painted Pickle demonstrates how strategic audio design can elevate both play and atmosphere.
